Holidays in Wanaka.

Holidays in Wanaka, New Zealand can be an experience of a lifetime - with scenic flights to Milford Sound; air, water and land activities, and of course Wanaka itself.

Wanaka is a small vibrant and cosmopolitan town on the shores of Lake Wanaka, in the Southern Lakes district of New Zealand's South Island. A less commercial alternative to nearby Queenstown, holidays in Wanaka benefit from stunningly beautiful alpine scenery, and an unparalleled range of year round recreational activities. An abundance of cafes, restaurants and artistic outlets add a creative edge, and the friendly locals ensure that holidays in Wanaka feel just a bit special!

Skiing holidays in Wanaka are first class.

In winter, Wanaka becomes a picturesque ski town, serving three ski fields - winter holidays in Wanaka are arguably the best in New Zealand. This winter, we are already enjoying excellent early snow conditions - the best in years. Cardrona, which this year opens its wide family friendly and snowboard friendly pistes between 24 June and 10 October, is the most popular ski field. Treble Cone, the largest ski area in the South Island is steep, breathtakingly beautiful and uncrowded; and Wairou Snow Farm offers Nordic skiing and a terrain park, high on a plateau wilderness. All ski resorts in South Island are remote from the towns that serve them and holidays in Wanaka are no exception, with a 20 minute drive to the base of each mountain. However, Wanaka Homestead is conveniently placed at the most convenient side of town for access to all ski fields and easy door-to-door ski bus collections are offered by several companies. Wanaka Homestead's lodge and cottage accommodation was built with weary skiers in mind, with steaming outside hot tub, log fires, equipment drying room and underfloor heating throughout. Holidays in Wanaka will never feel the same again!

Culture Attractions include quirky but brilliant Cinema Paradiso, galleries, a transport museum, and Wanaka’s acclaimed local brewery. The social calendar is always busy with summer and winter festivals, concerts, a rodeo and the popular bi-annual air-show “Warbirds over Wanaka.”

For children holidays in Wanaka can be pretty amazing, with an undeveloped lake shore, playparks, a swimming pool, fishing and horseriding adventures and the maze at Puzzling World. At Wanaka Homestead, Douglas the Border Terrier loves children as much as they love him.
