Wanaka Fly Fishing. New Zealand's centre of stick-bending fly fishing adventures

Fly fishing is Wanaka Homestead's speciality. Our resident fly fishing guides from Wanaka Fly Fishing cater for the never-evers and experts alike, with custom-made guided fishing adventures, fly-fishing tuition or wilderness fishing safaris. Within 15-90 minutes drive from Wanaka, lakes, rivers and numerous streams are home to brown and rainbow trout as well as salmon. Fishing Wanaka can be action packed year round but October-November, March-April-May, and winter (August), are particularly rewarding times.

Guided Fly fishing
Half, full or multi-day adventures and a choice of several lakes, rivers and many mountain streams makes fly fishing around Wanaka a truly amazing New Zealand experience. But with clear mountain water and perfect visibility, these healthy Wanaka fish can afford to be discerning. Your fly-fishing guides are tuned to their frequency, matching the choice of location with the right fly, and supplying you with transport, equipment, waders and a fabulous picnic lunch. Advice is on hand - as much or little as you desire.

Guided Fly Fishing Safaris
Guided fly-fishing adventures are not limited to Wanaka, we fish anywhere in the bottom half of New Zealand's South Island: Southern Lakes, Clutha River, Queenstown, West Coast, Fiordland, Southland and the Mackenzie Basin. Access is by 4wd, helicopter or raft, with overnight stay-overs and a possibility of camp-out trips into the more remote areas. Please contact us for custom made itineraries and quotations.

Fly Fishing Academy
For novices and improvers we also offer personalised INTRODUCTION TO FLY FISHING and IMPROVE YOUR FLY FISHING seminars. Ideally 3 to 5 days in duration, these programs provide a comprehensive overview of all major fly-fishing techniques. From dry fly to winter Tongariro-style fishing, this "fly fishing school" will help you become a fully-hackled angler. You will learn in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, in Nature's fantastic classroom - the lakes and rivers of the Wanaka region.

Fly Fishing Holidays
You can base your New Zealand flyfishing adventures at Wanaka Homestead. Bring you non-fishing companion along and we can organise alternative activities for them while you fish. Wanaka, just one hour from Queenstown airport, is a place for all seasons and the perfect base for your dear ones to have as much fun as you are. With this in mind, our flexible fly-fish and accommodation packages may provide the perfect solution.

"I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the fishing in Wanaka and how much I appreciated your efforts and guidance... " C.G. (UK)

"...Whilst I can safely say that your Wanaka Homestead concept, the fly-fishing academy, the location and quality of the environment, the peace and quiet and the relaxed pace all significantly exceeded our expectations, we had not prepared for the possibility that we would be leaving saying fond farewells to firmly established good friends." D.L.(Hong Kong)
