Combining the highest standards of insulation rarely seen in New Zealand, passive design, impressive build quality and an array of eight solar panels, our sustainable Wanaka accommodations consume only half of the bought-in energy that would be typical for this type of luxury accommodation in New Zealand's pristine mountain environment. With 11 luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms, 3 lounges and kitchens, radiant underfloor heating throughout, and a huge outdoor hot tub achieving a low energy solution was no mean feat!

Fully integrated with conventional electricity and gas supplies, the endless stream of hot water and barefoot cosiness of radiant underfloor heating can never run out.

What's environmentally friendly or sustainable about this New Zealand eco-lodge?

• Our super-insulation includes double glazed timber joinery, improved wall and ceiling insulation and under-slab insulation. Heat cannot escape!
• Our passive design cleverly absorbs solar radiation into a large thermal mass floor system. We make the most of the sun!
• Our solar hot water system reduces the need for bought-in power by half.
• Our solar hot water also backs up an under-floor water heating system - the healthiest type of heating imaginable.
• Our environmenatlly friendly landscaping consists almost entirely of native flora, including some rare local varieties.
• Our electrical devices are either low energy or on time switches
• Our choice of building materials was largely based on low-embodied energy principles, especially with opting for locally grown cypress timber
• We recycled timber from farm sheds from the same site. This timber now provides features throughout the complex.
• Our operational behaviour includes recycling and use of bio-degradable products
